Which Car Insurance Companies are Sued Most Often?
Do you have a good neighbor? Are you really in good hands? Turns out, according to Repairer Driven News, citing data provider Lex Machina’s 2022 Insurance Litigation Report – State Farm tops the list of car insurance companies sued the most. Allstate ranked second in this category.
When searching for car insurance companies, many people look only as far as the bottom line. And while we love to save money as much as the next guy… perhaps this article will shed light on the other side of the coin – and the stories that simply aren’t being told with fancy commercials and high pressure sales tactics.
The Insurance Litigation Report claims that State Farm was sued 4,831 times between 2017 and 2021 – with 2,681 of those being related to their auto coverage. Allstate, coming in second, was sued 2,688 times – 1,180 having to do with their auto coverage during the same period.
Interestingly enough, 73% of those cases ended up being settled. 2% were won by the plaintiffs, and 9% by the defendants. And 15% cited procedural resolutions – typically in dismissal.
Why does all this matter? We believe that when considering car insurance companies, it may be beneficial to go beyond the surface savings in premiums, and take a deeper look at how these companies actually treat their insured. By asking questions like, “will you pay for original equipment manufacturer’s parts?” or “are you going to restore me fully without me having to come out of pocket?”, you may discover that some neighbors aren’t as good as they say they are.
