Warning!! SCARE TACTIC ALERT!! Who warranties repairs? If any insurance company ever tells you, “if you choose a body shop that’s not on our “preferred list”, we won’t warranty or guarantee the repair…”, you can be 100% assured that they are misleading you in an attempt to steer (bully) you into one of their partner shops.
Let’s be 100% crystal clear here: No insurance company warranties repairs. They never have. They never will. The role of the insurance company is to PAY for the repair… and that’s all. It is, and always has been the collision center that warranties repairs on the vehicles they fix.
The whole issue boils down to typical scare tactics that insurance companies use against their insured (or the claimant) to take advantage of your lack of knowledge about how they (the insurance companies) make money. And trust us when we tell you – there’s a LOT of money at stake! Billions of dollars!
And while it doesn’t matter whether you go to the insurance company’s “preferred” shop, or an independent shop as to who warranties the repair (it will always be the shop) – if you choose to use one of their “preferred” or “partner” shops, you are significantly more likely to get a rushed or improper repair.
You see – it all boils down to the money. The insurance companies promise their partner shops more business by way of referrals (see above for how they scare people into coming to partner shops). However, the partnership only exists if the shops rush the cars through their system and use untested aftermarket or salvaged (used) parts.
